We do not collect anything ourselves: the game has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no servers of ours. Your progress stays on your device. Two things involve other parties: the optional co-op mode ("Fly Together"), which connects your phone directly to your friends' phones, and optional purchases, which Google Play handles.
Aerie ("the game", package com.aerie.game) is made by an independent developer ("we", "us"). Contact: jays1vlog@gmail.com.
Data controller: the developer of Aerie (contact: jays1vlog@gmail.com). For payments, Google is responsible for the data it processes under its own privacy policy.
Your progress (your bird designs, essence, unlocked looks, finds, settings, your co-op nickname and purchase receipts) is saved on your device in the game's own storage. It is not sent to us. Uninstalling the game, or clearing its storage, deletes it.
Device backup. If Android backup is turned on, Android may include the game's save (and only the save) in your own device backup, so it can come back on a new phone. That backup is handled by Google under your Google account, not by us, and you can turn it off in Android's settings.
Co-op is optional and only runs while you use it (Pause → Fly Together). Up to 4 players share a room, either with a five-letter room code or by choosing "Same Wi-Fi". The game then connects your device directly to the other players' devices (WebRTC, encrypted with DTLS). There is no game server of ours. While you fly together, the game sends to the other players in your room:
| Data (as named in Google Play's Data safety section) | What it means |
|---|---|
| App activity → Other user-generated content | your bird's design and the nickname you fly under (a random one until you change it), shown to the friends in your co-op room |
| App activity → Other actions | your bird's flight in the game world (position, speed, attitude) and its calls, sent live to the friends in your co-op room |
It is used only for app functionality (showing your bird in your friends' game), is not stored by the game anywhere, and stops when you leave the room. The other players are people you chose to fly with; please pick a nickname that does not identify you if you prefer.
Finding each other. To set up the direct connection, the game exchanges short connection messages through free public
relay services: the MQTT brokers broker.emqx.io, broker.hivemq.com and the nostr relays relay.damus.io, nos.lol, relay.primal.net. These messages are
encrypted with a key made from your room code (the relays cannot read them) and are not stored by the game. To find a route through your
router, the game asks public STUN servers (stun.l.google.com, stun1.l.google.com, stun.cloudflare.com) for your public network address; "Same Wi-Fi" uses that address, turned
into an unreadable room key, to meet players on the same network.
Your IP address. As with any internet connection, the relays, the STUN servers and the players you connect to can see your device's IP address. The relays and STUN servers are run by third parties under their own policies; we do not operate them and receive nothing from them.
Essence packs and the one-time Founder's Pack are sold through Google Play Billing. Payment is handled entirely by Google under your Google account, which also keeps your purchase history; we never see your name or payment details. The game keeps Google's purchase token (a receipt code) on your device so that each purchase is credited exactly once, and Pause → Essence → Restore asks Google Play which one-time purchases your account owns.
Android permissions: internet (co-op and Google Play), network state (used by Google Play's billing library), billing (purchases) and vibration (haptics, can be turned off in Settings).
The game is meant for players aged 13 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Co-op and purchases are optional. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, export or delete; your save is yours to delete on your device. For data held by Google, use Google's privacy tools (myaccount.google.com). You may also complain to your data-protection authority.
If a future version handles personal data differently, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
